Sanya donates 100 tons of vegetables to Wuhan
Sanya, an important winter vegetable base in Hainan, has donated 100 tons of high-quality vegetables and mangoes to Wuhan City, the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak. The donation occurred on February 1st, 2020.
Mr. A Dong, Mayor of the Sanya Municipal People’s Government inspected the fresh-picked vegetables.
Vegetables donated mainly included green beans, cucumbers, bitter melons, zucchinis, eggplants, hot peppers, and other melons and vegetables with high consumption rates in Wuhan, as well as 9 tons of mangoes.
A simple ceremony was held in Sanya on February 1st, 2020 for the vegetables supply to Wuhan.
The Sanya government mobilized agricultural bases and specialized vegetable wholesale markets in picking the freshest vegetables, and also carried out quality inspection and packaging. The Sanya government also set up special delivery personnel to guarantee transportation, coordinating with the Transportation Department of Hainan Province to open roads to delivery trucks along the route, as well as providing protective masks and protective clothing to ensure the safety of delivery personnel.
Mr. Ma Yezhong, Director of Sanya Municipal Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and Mr. Deng Cong, Deputy Head of Yazhou District Government, saw the delivery personnel off in Sanya on February 1st, 2020.
Hainan is the main source of China’s vegetables in winter, and is designated by the China Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs as one of Wuhan’s main suppliers of vegetables in winter. A total of four batches of donated vegetables from Hainan province, with a value of more than RMB 10 million, are racing to supply the markets in Hubei Province.
The first batch of 100 tons of vegetables was expected to arrive at markets in Wuhan 27 hours from the time of this writing.
