The 6th Hainan Island International Film Festival Concludes in Sanya, Golden Coconut Awards Winners Announced

On the evening of December 10, the closing ceremony and award presentation of the 6th Hainan Island International Film Festival were held at Phoenix Island in Sanya. Many renowned directors, actors, and experts from the domestic and international film industry gathered by the South China Sea to celebrate with the citizens of Lucheng and unveil the "Golden Coconut" awards.

"All things thrive in the sea, and light reflects the future." The film story "Ocean of Life" opened the evening's event. Luc Besson, the president of the jury for this year's festival, delivered a speech and sent his best wishes to the Hainan Island International Film Festival. Subsequently, the performances of song and dance such as "The Nameless," "La Vie en Rose," "Jasmine Flower," and "A Better Tomorrow" vividly interpreted the charm of light and shadow.

It is reported that this Hainan Island International Film Festival attracted 4,330 films from 117 countries and regions to participate in the competition. Eight documentary features such as "Clouds on the Ground," ten short films including "Ode to the Ages," and 14 narrative features were shortlisted for the Golden Coconut Awards competition. The jury, led by renowned French director Luc Besson, selected the final ten awards.

On the night, several well-known figures in the film industry took to the stage one after another to announce the winners of the Golden Coconut Awards for this year's film festival. The Georgian film "Holy Electricity" won the Best Film award, the Serbian film "78 Days" won the Jury Prize, Liticia Dorsch won the Best Director award for "Dog on Trial," Albert Merma won the Best Actor award for "Through Rocks and Clouds," Priti Panigrahi won the Best Actress award for "Girls Will Be Girls," Ruth Bekkelt and Leonardo van Dijil won the Best Screenplay award for "Julie Keeps Quiet," Dong Zijian's debut feature film "My Friend An Delie" won both the Best Visual Effects and the Best Chinese Language Contribution awards, "An Oscillating Shadow" won the Best Documentary award, and "Vox Humana" won the Best Short Film award.

 

The 6th Hainan Island International Film Festival, themed "All Things Thrive in the Sea, Light Reflects the Future," is co-hosted by China Central Radio and Television Station and the People's Government of Hainan Province.

For the first time, this edition of the film festival introduced the "Young Coconut Plan" Investment and Training Camp as a main activity to support the film industry and assist young directors in making short films. It provides selected participants with comprehensive support, including financial backing, free access to shooting locations, full post-production services, and professional guidance from seasoned filmmakers. During this film festival, five outstanding domestic film and television works signed agreements for overseas rights, marking the "first deal" of international copyright transactions at the Hainan Island International Film Festival.

 

This year's festival also held the Golden Coconut Forum, film master classes, “Spanish Film Week”, “ASEAN Unit” screenings and many other special activities. This year's film festival outdoor screening activities expand the map, covering four cities and counties in Hainan, a collection of coast, beach, pool, mountain tops, green space, urban forests and other scenes, the film and the perfect integration of the natural environment, for the public and tourists to provide a rich and colorful cultural experience.
