Tianya Stone, standing at a height of 10.8 meters and with a circumference of about 66 meters, is the symbol of the Tianya Haijiao Scenic Area. The word "Tianya" was inscribed by Cheng Zhe, the governor of Yazhou, during the Dingwei year of the Yongzheng reign. The stone appears to be a perfect square within a circle, and also a perfect circle within a square, featuring a stable and solid foundation. The Tian Ya Stone occupies a corner of the bay and has a history of eons of the time. The three characters "xiao dong tian" are engraved on the west side of a huge rock facing the sea. The characters are as big as a bucket on the side facing the sea. Mao Kui ordered someone to engrave the two characters "Diaotai", which were inscribed at the time of "Chunyou Ding Wei mid-autumn" and named "prefect Mao Kui Shi Jing".
