According to the latest report from the official interactive platform of Sanya City's Tourism and Culture Radio and Television Sports Bureau, Sanya City is welcoming a series of eye-catching new cultural and tourism landmarks. These projects will not only reshape the city's cultural landscape but also provide residents and tourists with a more diverse and colorful cultural and tourism experience. Currently, there are several ongoing construction projects in Sanya City that are being actively advanced.
1."Dual Center" project
The Hainan International Cultural Relic and Art Exchange Center and the Hainan International Cultural Exchange Center (referred to as the "Twin Centers") are key projects at both the provincial and municipal levels. Since the start of construction, the "Twin Centers" project has been progressing smoothly.
The "Twin Centers" project is planned to cover an area of about 88 mu, with a total construction area of approximately 169,300 square meters. Among this, the exchange center has a total investment of 1.5 billion yuan, and will include the construction of large temporary exhibition venues, art institutions and cultural relic stores, cultural relic and art auction transactions, multi-function halls, as well as integrated office, exhibition, conference, and reception functions. The exchange center has a total investment of 2 billion yuan, and will feature a 1,400-seat opera hall, a 500-seat multi-function hall, a small theater, a public art experience area, and more.

Once completed, the City Museum and the Comprehensive Archives will primarily serve as venues for exhibitions, collection research, educational outreach, and archival preservation. They will greatly promote the development and prosperity of urban cultural construction, address the shortcomings in Sanya's public cultural and sports facilities, provide venues for cultural exchanges, improve the urban cultural service system, and allow residents and tourists to better understand the history and culture of Sanya. These facilities will also become a new landmark for cultural tourism and a must-visit spot for residents and visitors.
3.‘Begonia Stories’ project
The Begonia Story project has a planned land area of 146 acres and a total construction area of about 163,000 square metres. The project aims to integrate Hainan's local traditional culture and coastal characteristics, bringing together China's top cultural and artistic brands, Michelin, Black Pearl and other black gold shops, international quality night-time economy, ‘food, art, experience, shopping, social’ and other functions as a whole, shaping a strong national brand model for Hainan, the national coast! The Begonia Story speciality cultural commercial project was designed by renowned architect Kengo Kuma. In addition to the continuation of the cultural genes of Chengdu's Wide and Narrow Alley, the project combines with heavyweight commercial complexes such as Sanya International Duty Free City, Taikoo Li, Jewellery and Gold Street, and Super Vientiane to form a commercial cluster, forming an integrated commercial matrix, and injecting new vitality into the accelerated development of Sanya into the core of an international tourism and consumption centre.
4.‘Taikoo Li Sanya’ project
Taikoo Li Sanya, located in Phase III of Sanya International Duty Free City, is Swire Properties‘ first resort-type retail project. With a gross floor area of over 360,000 square metres, it will be the largest of Swire Properties’ Swire Properties‘ Swire Properties’ Swire Properties, and will be built into the largest ‘Super Taikoo Li’ of its kind in terms of commercial space.
While the project will create a new international cultural and tourism business landmark with high-end retail, coastal cultural and tourism elements and a cutting-edge cultural and art scene, it will be connected to Sanya International Duty Free City Phase I and Phase II, a duty-free business complex, via a pedestrian walkway.
The design will highlight Sanya's tropical coastline and unique ecological landscape, while drawing inspiration from the traditional fishing settlements of local indigenous ethnic communities. Against the backdrop of Haitang Bay's 22 kilometres of coastline, the project will be benchmarked against international first-class commercial projects, featuring high-end retail and incorporating artistic and cultural elements to create a luxury tourist destination.
5."DFS" Project
DFS Group and Shenya Group will collaborate to develop Sanya's inaugural world-class luxury retail and leisure project, DFS Yalong Bay, with the completion expected by 2026.
DFS project is located in the Yalong Bay tourist area, with a planned area of 128,000 square meters. After its completion, it is expected to attract over 1,000 international brands across various categories, including fashion and handbags, beauty and fragrances, watches and jewelry, alcohol, high-end dining, and food and beverage. It aims to become a retail leisure and entertainment destination that integrates luxury shopping, world-class hotels, high-end dining, and entertainment, providing domestic and international tourists with a high-quality consumption experience of international first-tier luxury brands.
6."Nanfan Museum" Project
The construction of Nan Fan Museum Project started on 10 October 2022 in Yazhou Bay Science and Technology City. The project covers an area of 19.38 acres, with a total construction area of about 49,000 square metres, an exhibition area of 8,880 square metres, 3 floors underground and 6 floors above ground. The museum has completed the main construction, is carrying out interior works and exhibition design, and is scheduled to open to the public in June 2025 for operation.
The museum's permanent exhibitions include the Nanpropagation History Exhibition and the Seed Science and Technology Exhibition. The Nanpropagation History Exhibition focuses on Nanpropagation's development history, Nanpropagation's spirit, Nanpropagation's personalities, Nanpropagation's achievements and the future, etc. The Seed Science and Technology Exhibition focuses on popular science and cultural tourism, systematically displaying the diversity of seeds, the origin of seeds, the development of the seed industry, the achievements of science and technology, and other scientific and popular content.
