On April 16, 2025, Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister of China, and Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, Minister of Home Affairs of Malaysia, signed the "Agreement Between the Government of the People’s Republic of China and the Government of Malaysia on Mutual Visa Exemption for Holders of Official Ordinary Passports and Ordinary Passports" on behalf of their respective governments. The agreement will take effect after both governments fulfill required procedures. The existing visa-free entry policies between China and Malaysia for each other’s citizens remain unaffected.

The agreement will enter into force after both governments complete necessary domestic procedures.
