As cool splashes danced amid laughter in Maona Village of Wuzhishan, the month-long Tropical Rainforest Challenge across five cities and counties of the Sanya Economic Circle concluded perfectly on July 13. Starting from the floral seaside of Sanya’s Yalong Bay on June 15 and culminating warmly in the heart of Wuzhishan’s rainforest, this "green journey" blended wild landscapes, cultural heritage, and sporting passion. With five uniquely captivating racecourses, it penned a magnificent chapter in the deep integration of culture, sports, and tourism within the Sanya Economic Circle.

Five cities relayed the challenge, each showcasing its charm through distinctive courses that painted the rainforest’s diversity. It ignited public passion starting from the mountain-sea-flower track at Sanya’s Yalong Bay Rose Valley; traversed Nanwan Monkey Island and raced toward the serene Dadaidao Island in Lingshui’s Li’an International Education Innovation Pilot Zone; plunged into the depths of Baoting’s Yanoda Rainforest to feel the pulse of the "Heart of the Rainforest" on pristine trails; scaled Jianfengling’s sea of clouds in Ledong, ascending to Tianchi Lake to extend the eco-tourism experience; and culminated in Wuzhishan, climbing the celestial steps of the Li Ancestral Hall amid wild rainforest paths and ecological tea plantations. The "Rainforest Night" concert, "Rainforest Color Run," and water-gun frenzy ignited ethnic culture and sporting fervor. These five uniquely themed stages collectively sketched a rich ecological and cultural tapestry for the challenge.
Notably, the challenge’s route aligned perfectly with Hainan’s newly launched Ring Tropical Rainforest National Park Tourist Highway. This 466-kilometer "Golden Inner Loop" served as an ecological ribbon woven through lush landscapes, tightly linking Sanya, Lingshui, Baoting, Ledong, and Wuzhishan. It provided easy access to the rainforest’s core for participants and tourists while stringing together unique villages and majestic vistas like a "pearl necklace." The racecourse ingeniously integrated this highway with primitive rainforest trails, allowing runners to deeply experience the wilderness secrets and cultural charm revealed by the "Inner Loop" as they measured the rainforest’s vitality. This vividly realized the "Travel with the Race" concept. The synergy between the Rainforest Ring Road and the Hainan Island Tourist Highway created a "twin-loop linkage," offering robust transport support and scenic connectivity for this sports-cultural-tourism extravaganza, elevating the coordinated development of culture, sports, and tourism in the Sanya Economic Circle to new heights.

As a co-branded event of the Sanya Economic Circle, the second edition achieved an all-round upgrade in quality. In scale: participation slots increased to nearly 8,000, filling within 24 hours of registration opening, reflecting soaring brand influence. In format: beyond core competitive categories, innovative additions like the Couples’ Group and fun awards ("Short Video Star Award," "Local Flair Award") boosted engagement and visibility. In experience: deeply implementing "Travel with the Race," it extended participants’ journeys to regional cultural tours, driving full-chain consumption (dining, lodging, transport, sightseeing, entertainment, shopping) across the Economic Circle. In support: every stage featured dual public-service units – "Eco-Runners" and "First-Aid Runners" – integrating green sustainability and safety into the event framework. These innovations forged a higher-quality race experience, seamlessly blending sporting passion with ecological and cultural exploration.

This month-long sports-cultural-tourism feast spanning mountains, seas, and rainforests allowed countless runners to traverse the Sanya Economic Circle’s vibrant rainforest ecology and diverse culture with their footsteps. More importantly, its innovative approach provided a model for regional integration of culture, sports, and tourism. The event’s success resulted from the concerted efforts of five cities and strong support from all sectors of society.

Though mountains and seas stretch far, our strides never cease; though rainforests stay evergreen, our passion never fades. The successful conclusion of the 2025 Sanya Economic Circle Tropical Rainforest Challenge is not an end, but a new starting point toward a more outstanding and spectacular future. Let us look forward to the next edition, which will continue writing new legends belonging to the rainforests, the mountains and seas, and every brave explorer – with greater openness, higher-quality experiences, and deeper collaboration!
