Hainan's Visa-Free "Circle of Friends" Reaches 85 Countries —— Full List Attached

Combined with the nationwide bilateral mutual visa exemption policy (27 countries) and unilateral visa-free policy (47 countries), Hainan's 59-country visa-free entry policy allows ordinary passport holders from 85 countries to enter Hainan without a visa. These policies apply in the following order: bilateral mutual visa exemption (or unilateral visa-free policy) first, followed by Hainan's 59-country visa-free policy.

To further facilitate personnel exchanges between China and other countries, China has decided to expand visa-free access. A trial visa-free policy for ordinary passport holders from Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru, and Uruguay will be implemented from June 1, 2025, to May 31, 2026. A trial visa-free policy for ordinary passport holders from Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, and Bahrain will be implemented from June 9, 2025, to June 8, 2026.

Thus, combined with the nationwide bilateral mutual visa exemption policy (27 countries) and unilateral visa-free policy (47 countries), Hainan's 59-country visa-free entry policy allows ordinary passport holders from 85 countries to enter Hainan without a visa. Bilateral Mutual Visa Exemption and Unilateral Visa-Free (Total 74 Countries)

To date, China has signed bilateral mutual visa exemption agreements with 27 countries and unilaterally granted visa-free entry to citizens of 47 countries. Ordinary passport holders from these 74 countries can enter China visa-free through all open ports (including Hainan).

The list of countries, purposes of entry, and duration of stay in China are detailed below:

1. Bilateral Mutual Visa Exemption (27 countries):

Albania, United Arab Emirates, Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Bahamas, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dominica, Ecuador, Fiji, Grenada, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Qatar, Maldives, Mauritius, Serbia, Seychelles, San Marino, Suriname, Solomon Islands, Samoa, Thailand, Tonga, Singapore, Armenia, Uzbekistan.

Purpose of Entry: As stipulated in the bilateral "Agreement on Mutual Visa Exemption for Holders of Ordinary Passports".

Duration of Stay in China: As stipulated in the bilateral "Agreement on Mutual Visa Exemption for Holders of Ordinary Passports".

2. Unilateral Visa-Free (47 countries):

Andorra, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brunei, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Ireland, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Latvia, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Monaco, Montenegro, Netherlands, New Zealand, North Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland; Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Uruguay; Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain (last 4 countries effective from June 9).

Purpose of Entry: Business, tourism, visiting relatives/friends, exchange visits, transit.

Duration of Stay in China:

For unilateral visa-free countries except Brunei and 9 others (Note: Specific list not provided in text), visa-free stay is limited to 30 days from November 30, 2024, to December 31, 2025.

For Brunei citizens, the visa-free stay duration was extended to 30 days starting November 30, 2024.

For ordinary passport holders from Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Uruguay: 30 days (Trial period: June 1, 2025, to May 31, 2026).

For ordinary passport holders from Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain: 30 days (Trial period: June 9, 2025, to June 8, 2026).

Note: Currently, Hainan has direct flights to/from Thailand, Singapore, UAE, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, and Kazakhstan. Citizens from these 10 countries can fly directly from their home country to enter Hainan visa-free.

3. Applicable Only Under Hainan's 59-Country Visa-Free Policy (11 countries)

Starting February 9, 2024, citizens from 59 countries can enter Hainan visa-free through all open ports in Hainan Province (Haikou Meilan International Airport, Sanya Phoenix International Airport, Qionghai Boao International Airport, Yangpu Port, Haikou Port, Qinglan Port, Basuo Port, Sanya Port) for purposes such as tourism, business, visiting, family visits, medical treatment, exhibitions, sports competitions (excluding work or study), and stay for up to 30 days.

Among the 59 countries covered by Hainan's visa-free policy, 11 countries are not included in the bilateral mutual visa exemption or unilateral visa-free policies and are only eligible under the Hainan visa-free policy. These are: Canada, Czech Republic, Indonesia, Lithuania, Mexico, Philippines, Russia, Sweden, United States, United Kingdom, and Ukraine.

Among these 11 countries, Hainan has direct flights to/from Russia, the UK, and Indonesia. Citizens from these three countries can fly directly from their home country to enter Hainan visa-free. Citizens from the remaining 8 countries can transit visa-free through cities outside Mainland China that have direct flights to Hainan, such as Hong Kong (China), Macao (China), Singapore, and Bangkok, to enter Hainan visa-free.
