Spring Festival Travel Guide: Skip the Traffic, Save Time for the Scenery
Sanya during the Spring Festival is blessed with perfect sunshine, but the crowds are equally “scorching hot.” To avoid having your wonderful holiday ruined by traffic jams, the Traffic Management Branch of Sanya Public Security Bureau has compiled this “Traffic Intelligence Report” based on historical Spring Festival travel data and the latest road conditions. After all, the best scenery shouldn’t be confined to the view outside your car window—and certainly not stuck in a long line of gridlocked traffic.。
Off-Peak Travel Alert: Pinpoint These “Key Time Points”
Based on big data analysis by traffic police authorities, this year’s Spring Festival traffic flow will exhibit distinct tidal patterns. For a smoother journey, we recommend avoiding the following potential congestion periods:
Morning Rush Hour Alert: February 15, 07:00 – 09:00
Plan your departure time wisely—leave earlier or later to minimize waiting in queues.
Return Peak Alert: February 22–23, 14:00–20:00 These days mark peak departure and return times for island travel. Plan ahead and allow ample travel time to avoid missing flights or trains.
Hotspot Map: These Areas Are “Traffic Hubs”
During the Spring Festival period, traffic will be highly concentrated in core scenic areas and popular commercial districts. The following sections are designated as “extremely high-traffic” zones. Please exercise patience when traveling through these areas, or use navigation apps to check real-time traffic conditions in advance to avoid congestion:
Key Scenic Areas: Nanshan Cultural Tourism Area, Luhuitou Scenic Area, Wuzhizhou Island Scenic Area, Yalong Bay Scenic Area, Haitang Bay International Duty-Free City, etc.
Major Arterial Roads: G98 Ring Expressway (East and West Sections), Sanya Ring Expressway, National Highway 223, National Highway 225.
New Regulations Update: Pay Attention to Road Conditions and Follow Traffic Directions
Drivers are advised to take special note: To alleviate congestion in the city center, certain sections of Sanya may implement one-way traffic or temporary traffic restrictions.
Key areas of focus: Gangmen Village area (including Gangmen Village 1st Road, Shangcun Road), Linchun River Road and surrounding alleys, Sanya River East Road, etc.
Special Notice: Traffic control measures may be dynamically adjusted based on visitor flow. Drivers must strictly observe roadside traffic signs and pavement markings at all times. Do not drive against traffic flow. Electronic surveillance cameras are in operation throughout all road sections. Safety comes first!
Emergency Tips: What to Do After a Minor Fender Bender?
During the Spring Festival, traffic is heavy. If you are involved in a minor accident (no injuries, vehicles remain drivable), avoid arguing in the middle of the road and causing congestion.
Recommended Approach:
Utilize the “Quick Accident Resolution” mechanism.
Promptly photograph the scene for evidence (including vehicle front, rear, point of impact, and license plates).
Then, move vehicles to a safe location that does not obstruct traffic before negotiating or assessing damages.
Reporting and Assistance:
If injuries occur or vehicles cannot be moved,
immediately activate hazard lights, set up warning signs,
and call 122 to report the incident.
Public Transportation: More Convenient with Diverse Options
If you don’t want to waste precious time searching for parking at scenic spots, Sanya’s comprehensive public transportation network (buses, ride-hailing services, tourist shuttle lines) is an excellent choice.
