Sanya airport sees record high annual passenger throughput
As of Dec 9, the total passenger throughput of Sanya Phoenix International Airport exceeded 20.37 million, reaching a new historical high. The airport also oversaw more than 128,000 takeoffs and landings this year.
The demand for travel has grown continuously this year. On Jan 27, the daily passenger throughput of Sanya airport reached 85,002, setting a new record since the airport first opened. In July 1, the airport served over 1.79 million passengers on more than 11,300 flights, setting a new record for the highest monthly passenger volume during the summer season.
To meet the market demand, Sanya airport has been actively developing its aviation market and optimizing its route network. It has focused on increasing the frequency of key route flights to cities such as Beijing, Chengdu, and Chongqing. In addition, the airport has resumed nine international and regional routes, covering key overseas markets such as Southeast Asia, Northeast Asia, and Central Asia.
On Dec 1, a new passenger flight route under the fifth freedom of the air from Phnom Penh to Singapore via Sanya opened, marking a significant milestone for Sanya airport. Furthermore, the construction of the airports Phase III expansion project started on Nov 20, which will further enhance its operational capacity once completed.
Sanya airport has also launched more than 30 innovative projects, including senior-friendly services for elderly travelers, visualized baggage services, and cultural exchange activities during traditional festivals. These efforts aim to upgrade the service chain and meet the diverse needs of domestic and international passengers.
