Ancient Charm of Yizhou: Chinese New Year
This Lunar New Year of the Horse, from February 14 (the 27th day of the twelfth lunar month) to March 3 (the 15th day of the first lunar month), Yazhou Ancient City will join forces with Nanshan Cultural Tourism Zone and major commercial districts to present a festive celebration brimming with ancient charm and poetic elegance. Under the theme “Explore Yazhou, Savor the New Year Spirit, and Rejoice in Spring Festival,” we invite you to immerse yourself in the vibrant traditions of this joyous occasion.
🏮 Immersive Performances: Illuminating the Ancient City with Radiant Splendor
On the evening of February 14, a grand lighting ceremony will be held at the Civilization Gate Square in Yazhou Ancient City, officially kicking off the Spring Festival celebrations.
Thousands of Lanterns Illuminate Yazhou: Horse-themed decorations and lanterns will intertwine to create a dreamlike nightscape of the ancient city. During the Lantern Festival period, activities like guessing lantern riddles will be added.
Hanfu Parade and Folk Performances: A Hanfu-themed parade will run concurrently. From the third to the fourth day of the Lunar New Year, intangible cultural heritage performances including dragon and lion dances, as well as the Li ethnic group’s wood-chopping dance, will be showcased in rotation.
Citywide Blessings: On the fifth day of the Lunar New Year, a “God of Wealth Troupe” will parade through the streets distributing good fortune bags. The fifteenth day will feature a Twelve Flower Goddesses parade and interactive experiences like the “Yazhou Mystery Box” poetry riddle contest.
🛍️ Yazhou Ancient City’s Maoqian Market: Song Dynasty Aesthetics and Everyday Life
From February 20 to March 3, the “Maoqian Market” will open daily from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM. The market showcases exquisite cultural and creative products, Hainan specialty cuisine, and festive goods, fully embodying the vibrant, everyday charm of Song Dynasty aesthetics. Additionally, interactive activities like the “Yazhou Sour Bean Fish Pop-Up” and “Ancient City Challenge” will be featured, complemented by Year of the Horse-themed decorative installations. Participate to win cultural and creative gifts.
🎨 Intangible Cultural Heritage Classroom: Cultural Heritage at Your Fingertips
To provide an immersive experience of traditional crafts, the event has specially invited intangible cultural heritage inheritors to conduct hands-on workshops. You can personally try your hand at weaving Li brocade, crafting Li pottery, and creating sugar paintings, making your own unique New Year souvenir.
