By Rail & Cruise

Sanya enjoys a truly unique railway advantage. It is connected to mainland China via the Yuehai Railway, China’s first cross-sea railway, providing direct rail links to major inland cities such as Beijing and Guangzhou. At the same time, Sanya serves as a key hub on the Hainan Island High-Speed Railway.

Cross-Sea Rail Travel

A. Direct Cross-Sea Trains
If you are departing from Shenzhen or other cities in Guangdong Province, you may choose a direct train to Sanya (Eg: Shenzhen East – Sanya).

When the train reaches the Qiongzhou Strait, the entire carriage is driven onto a massive ferry. Passengers remain comfortably on board as the train crosses the sea—an uncommon and fascinating “rail–sea–rail” journey.
The sound of waves, sea breeze, and steel rails blend together, creating a one-of-a-kind experience across open water.

B. Transfer via Haikou
Travelers from other mainland cities typically arrive first at Haikou Railway Station or Haikou East Station, then transfer to the Hainan Island High-Speed Railway.

This is the world’s first circular high-speed railway, connecting coastal cities such as Haikou, Wenchang, and Sanya. Trains run frequently and offer a fast, comfortable ride. The journey from Haikou to Sanya takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. Heading south, you’ll pass sweeping coastlines, coconut groves, and lush tropical scenery—every segment a coastal panorama.

Sanya has four main railway stations. You may choose the most convenient stop based on your destination:

Station Best For Highlights
Sanya Station City center / transport hub The largest station in Sanya and a required stop for all incoming trains and island rail services. Ideal if you’re staying in Sanya Bay or downtown areas.
Phoenix Airport Station Air-rail transfer Directly connected to the airport terminal via a covered walkway. Perfect for travelers transferring straight from a flight to the high-speed railway.
Yalong Bay Station Resort access Ideal if you’re staying in Yalong Bay. Step off the train and arrive directly at one of China’s most celebrated beach resorts—no city transfer needed.
Yazhou Station History & culture Located in western Sanya near Yazhou Ancient Town. Best for travelers interested in historical sites and cultural exploration.

Once in Sanya, don’t miss the new Sanle Tourist Railway, often called the city’s “most stylish rail line.”
Running between central Sanya and Yazhou, the line connects popular attractions and resort areas. The carriages feature island-inspired interiors, while outside the windows stretch blue seas, layered mountains, and dramatic coastal views. Whether you’re resort-hopping, exploring heritage sites, or chasing sunsets, the journey itself becomes part of the experience.

Cruise Travel

Arriving in Sanya by sea is one of the most romantic ways to begin your holiday.
Cruise ships dock at Sanya Phoenix Island International Cruise Port, a destination landmark as much as a port.

Prime location
Unlike many cruise ports located far from city centers, Phoenix Island sits on a man-made island in the heart of Sanya Bay, directly connected to downtown via a sea bridge. Step off the ship and you’re immediately in the city—no long transfers required.

As your cruise glides into harbor, you’ll enjoy a rare sea-level perspective of the iconic Coconut Dream Corridor coastline and Sanya’s striking skyline.

Smooth and efficient arrival
As China’s first international cruise port, Phoenix Island offers a mature and highly efficient immigration process, ensuring a seamless arrival experience. Foreign cruise tour groups are eligible for a 15-day visa-free stay, along with additional facilitation measures, including:

No fingerprint collection
No entry/exit stamp required
No arrival card required
These policies allow for a truly “dock and go” experience—effortless, relaxed, and designed for comfort.
