At 20:00 on August 16, the Opening Ceremony of the 7th Hainan Provincial Games will be held at the Qionghai Culture & Sports Center Stadium. The ceremony is now in its final sprint, with nearly a thousand performers rehearsing in full swing for an audiovisual feast blending Hainan's natural scenery, regional culture, sporting spirit, and the vitality of the Free Trade Port.

Themed "This Sea Embraces All Rivers," the ceremony uses the Wanquan River as its narrative thread, showcasing an open, vibrant Hainan through large-scale stage performances, dynamic light and shadow, and distinctive Hainan cultural elements.

One River, Stringing Together Hainan's Story

The Wanquan River is not only an iconic natural and cultural symbol of Hainan but also the key visual thread running through the entire ceremony.

Ground-level dynamic projections will bring the "flowing Wanquan River" into the stadium. Shimmering water ripples spread with the music as coconut groves, rice paddies, old arcade streets, and Boao's Yudai Beach appear in sequence, letting the audience travel through Hainan along the "river."

The segment "Wanquan Flowing into a Painting" will use imaginative staging to depict "a hundred boats gathering, ten thousand springs returning to the sea." The classic melody "The Wanquan River Waters Are Clear," along with cultural elements like the Red Detachment of Women, Qiong Opera, and fish lanterns, will also be woven into the show, giving traditional culture new life through modern stagecraft.

Light and Shadow Stage Shows Hainan's "Acceleration"

Beyond Hainan's mountains, seas, and humanities, the ceremony also looks at the era of Free Trade Port development.

The performances unfold around the themes "Ecological Beauty — People's Wellbeing — Development Power — Openness Trend." Among them, "Hainan's Acceleration" is built on the concept of "Five Directions of Strength" — seed industry, deep-sea technology, aerospace, green energy, and the digital economy — transforming these into striking, tech-forward stage visuals that convey Hainan's forward momentum.

The ceremony embraces the idea that "everyone is a protagonist." Songs, cheerleading, martial arts, and folk performances bring together people of all ages and regions, making the Games a sporting celebration for the whole island.

"The Same Blue Sky" brings together intangible cultural heritage and folk traditions from various cities and counties, including Li brocade, Danzhou tone-singing, Lingao fishing songs, and Wuzhishan bamboo pole dance. "Leaping Passion" presents various sports scenes through immersive performance. "The World Watches This Tide" incorporates features like Hainan's round-island tourism highway and the tropical rainforest national park scenic road, showing the vibrant unity of Hainan's 19 cities and counties.
